It is that time of year where I’m feeling the abundance of thankfulness about everything around me. I am thankful to do a job I love each and every day. It’s also a blessing to be able to serve students in other classrooms around the world by sharing tips, tricks, and ideas here on the blog.
If you’ve been around, you know all about how I’ve been working with our special students for quite a while and it is my world. {You can read more about that here.} I even got a chance to share some of my story at an event with Teachers Pay Teachers this summer, they even caught it on film!
I can’t begin to explain how thankful I am for each and every day I get to spend with the students in my classroom. Yes, it may sound sappy, but it’s completely true. I feel blessed each and every day that I get to go into my classroom and see the world through the eyes of my students. I often hear people telling me that the students I teach are lucky to have me. This is not true. I am lucky to get the privilege of teaching these students.
We have created a little family in my classroom where it is ok to be yourself and take risks every day. Watching my students take these risks is absolutely the biggest blessing I could ever have. I am thankful for this.
Each and every day I get to see the world from a different perspective reminds me of how different we are and how special that truly is. I am thankful for this.
I get to watch personalities emerge in students who have typically been isolated. I am thankful for this.
I get to watch students utter their first words and sounds. I am thankful for this.
I am able to spend the day playing on the floor while creating learning opportunities with my students. I am thankful for this.
I get to build relationships with peers and create a more caring community for students to exist in. I am thankful for this.
I am able to work with families and see the excitement they have when their child begins to communicate more effectively. I am thankful for this.
I am thankful for each student who has walked through my door. Because of them, I have grown as an educator. I have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing students and this has been the greatest gift I ever could have been given.
Being able to share this joy in classrooms around the world is something I never dreamt I would be able to do and doing it has made me even more thankful.
I hope you are feeling thankful for all the little blessings that come into your classroom, too. Happy Thanksgiving!
