So I was supposed to write about Arrival Routines today, but I forgot to take pictures! I did remember to take pictures of our departure routine, so lets talk about that instead! (It has definitely been that kind of week!)
It is important to establish routines in the classroom. It provides structure and predictability for students. I love our arrival and departure routine this year! Check it out:
When students check their schedule it will have a “Goodbye” icon that they match to a parking lot on our door. They then retrieve a Departure Schedule. It is hung on the wall in a manila envelope I have trimmed. It is like this Arrival pocket (seriously, it was one of those weeks!):
Students remove the schedule and see the list of things they need to gather to pack up:
In the morning, students unpack their communication binders, now they must collect it to take home:
Next, students gather papers (I keep them in an organizer like this one) and put them into a folder in their binder.
Then the students take get their lunchbox from our lunchbox bin.
Then they get their backpacks and load it all up!
Then we zip those backpacks up and head home!
Then we get ready to do it all again tomorrow!
I’ve had quite a few requests for the icons, so I put them together in an awesome freebie! Click on the picture to grab your FREE Arrival and Departure Icons!
How do you teach students routines in your classroom?

Love the separate dismissal schedule!!! What a great idea and so easy to customize for each student. Thanks for sharing!!!
